Launch of OPO Side-by-Side Scheme
Our new Side-by-Side Scheme was launched in the debut concert of our 2019/20 season to great success. Helmed by our newly appointed Assistant Conductor Hannah Schneider, the scheme provides talented young musicians from Oxfordshire the opportunity to perform alongside our professional musicians in three concerts this season.
“The Side-by-Side experience has been incredible. Having the opportunity to sit beside a professional player has taught me a lot as well as the overall experience of playing amazing repertoire within a professional orchestra.”
Hannah Leighton-Jones (Violin)
The students performed Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture alongside our musicians, opening the Saturday 5 October 2019 concert at the Sheldonian Theatre.
Didn’t catch it? The Scheme will be repeated this season at the Oxford Town Hall on Saturday 2 November 2019 & Friday 5 June 2020.
“Amazing to play with a professional orchestra and to be treated like a professional musician.”
Ben Nicoll (Trombone)
“First Side-by-Side experience has been great. It’s awesome to be playing alongside incredible musicians, doing very big rep. Also very good to get feedback from professionals.”
Theo Pedley (Percussion)
