Overview

The Oxford Philharmonic, one of the UK’s leading orchestras seeks a highly motivated Planning Manager.  We are looking for a highly-organised, conscientious, and friendly person, who is willing to work both on their own initiative and as part of a small team.  This is a dynamic role in a fast-developing organisation, in addition to our season at the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford and London appearances, recent and future touring includes Germany, Austria, New York, Dubai, Japan and Spain. The chosen candidate will report to the Music Director and Directors of the company.

This is a permanent, full-time role.

Job profile:

To work with the Music Director to plan concerts and projects for future seasons, and to expand the work of the orchestra both in the UK and overseas.

Principal accountabilities:

Working alongside Music Director to plan concert programmes and choice of guest artists

Liaising with agents: build and develop relationships with artist managers at the very highest level of artists.  Booking artists on the instructions of and in agreement with the Music Director for concerts and negotiating fees in consultation with the COO.

Developing and building relationships with presenters and promoting and selling the orchestra to new venues, festivals and agents, both in the UK and abroad and attend conferences such as ABO and IAMA.

Collaborating with external consultants regarding media, recordings and promotion.

Liaising with the Orchestra’s PR and Marketing Officer regarding promotion material.

Oversee the work of the Planning & Logistics Officer and act as line manager.

Applicant Profile:

Essential abilities/qualifications:

  • At least 5-10 years’ experience in the arts
  • Detailed knowledge of orchestral music
  • Detailed knowledge of conductors, instrumentalists and singers
  • Experience in sales
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
  • Good IT skills and experience using Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks

Preferred abilities/qualifications:

  • Experience of liaising with agents and negotiating fees
  • Experience of sales
  • Network of music industry contacts in UK and abroad
  • Experience of creating budgets in excel
