Overview

The Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the UK’s leading orchestras seeks a highly motivated Education Officer. The main purpose of this role is to plan and manage a variety of music outreach programmes that inspire and empower individuals of diverse age ranges, abilities, socio-economic statuses and musical backgrounds.

We are looking for a highly organised, conscientious, and friendly person, who is willing to work both on their own initiative and as part of a small team. This is a dynamic role in a fast-developing organisation. The chosen candidate will report to the Chief Operating Officer and Directors.

This is a permanent, full-time role, based in our London Office. The holiday entitlement is 20 days plus Bank Holidays. Travel to Oxford for concerts and workshops will be required and evening and weekend work will be necessary. An in-lieu scheme is in place to cover out-of-hours working.

Job Profile

Primary accountabilities

Community

  • Expand the orchestra’s work within the community in Oxfordshire. 
  • Manage projects with primary, secondary and SEN(D) schools in Oxfordshire, providing support at the events as required
  • Coordinate visits to hospitals, potentially expanding the programme to cover care homes
  • Create and manage project budgets
  • Deliver projects from the planning stages through to evaluation and reporting
  • Support the Development department by effectively evaluating projects and collecting data, and assisting with funding applications as required
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts at various schools and hospitals

Piano Festival

  • Receive and collate applications from participants
  • Determine the masterclass timetable
  • Liaise with participants and observers to collect their information, determine their preferences and issue invoices
  • Coordinate accommodation for all parties involved at the Piano Festival
  • Act as the point of contact for participants and observers before, during and after the festival
  • Manage the masterclasses and participants’ recital

County

  • Write copy for OCMS leaflets, advertise the schemes and update online application forms
  • Engage panellists for auditions and the concerto competition
  • Receive and collate applications
  • Act as point of contact for OCMS student musicians
  • Organise and run OCMS auditions
  • Organise and run the Oxfordshire Concerto Competition semi-final and final
  • Assist the Conducting Fellow in the delivery of the Side-by-Side scheme

University Residency

  • Write copy for University Residency brochure, advertise the schemes and create online application forms
  • Engage panellists for auditions and the concerto competition
  • Receive and collate applications
  • Act as point of contact for University student musicians
  • Organise and run University Residency auditions, masterclasses and workshops, various student performance programmes
  • Compile the University Residency Report at the end of each academic year

Applicant profile:

Essential abilities/qualifications:

  • An interest in and knowledge of classical music and a desire to bring the fun and stimulation of live music to the wider community
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Meticulous accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Strong IT skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks
  • Minimum 2 years experience in the arts
  • Applicant must have the right to work in the UK

Preferred abilities/qualifications:

  • Experience supporting young people to create media content to share their experience of taking part in activities
  • Experience working with children
  • Prior knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice
  • Experience with Inclusive and Accessible Programming 
  • Experience of monitoring and managing budgets
  • Knowledge of Oxford and Oxfordshire
  • A degree in music
