Workshops & Masterclasses
Learn from some of the world’s top musicians in our free workshops and masterclasses.
As Orchestra in Residence at the University of Oxford, we are proud to host some of the world’s most eminent soloists in our concert season. In addition to our own fantastic players, many of these world-class guest soloists conduct masterclasses in Oxford, providing young musicians with the rare opportunity to learn from those at the top of their game.
We also conduct an annual Composers’ Workshop, where young Oxford composers can hear their work performed by a professional ensemble. Selected works each year are even programmed to receive their world premiere performance in the Orchestra’s next main season.
Unmatched access to world-class expertise
About our Workshops & Masterclasses
Each season, we enrich our concert programme offering with a series of outstanding workshops and masterclasses in venues across Oxford, free to attend. Our own musicians host many of these, from chamber music workshops for string and wind ensembles to conducting workshops with our Music Director, Marios Papadopoulos, all in addition to individual instrument masterclasses held by soloists in the Orchestra.
The Orchestra performs regularly with some of the most highly regarded musicians of our time, many of whom also hold masterclasses during their visit to Oxford. Previous guests have included Maxim Vengerov, Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lang Lang.
Our annual composers’ workshop also provides a selection of young Oxford composers with the rare and invaluable opportunity to have their compositions performed and workshopped by an ensemble of Oxford Philharmonic musicians. Works selected from this workshop will also be programmed to receive their world premiere performance as part of the Orchestra’s next concert season.
