Joseph Sanders is Principal Oboe of the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra. He read Modern Languages at Cambridge before studying at the Royal Academy of Music and the Freiburg Hochschule für Musik in Germany. He was oboist for Ensemble Modern Frankfurt for many years, playing in numerous world premieres and recordings and has worked with many of the leading composers of our day, including John Cage, Hans Werner Henze, Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Oliver Knussen George Benjamin, Maurizio Kagel, Heinz Holliger, HK Gruber, Helmut Lachenmann and Steve Reich. He now enjoys a varied diet of freelance work as soloist, chamber musician and principal oboe: everything from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Rambert Dance to opera, ballet and West End shows. Joseph is a professor at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
