World Opera Day 2026

1 day ago   |   Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra   |   Oxford International Opera

Every year on 25 October, opera lovers, companies and arts organisations around the world come together to celebrate World Opera Day. After the launch of Oxford International Opera earlier this year, we mark the occasion with a deepened appreciation for all the wonder this form has to offer.

We’re incredibly proud of our recent production of Tosca; the response has been overwhelming. Welcoming faces we know and faces we don’t (yet), watching some of the repertoire’s most emotional moments play out on stage and laying the groundwork for future outreach initiatives by offering young audiences the chance to witness some of the world’s greatest stars in action was simply incredible.

Opera is an art form that defies boundaries. It speaks to people across language barriers and remains relevant through the centuries. Like the city of Oxford, it fosters creativity and ideas worldwide.

This year’s World Opera Day theme is Opera Connects, founded on the belief that opera is an inherently international art form. Suffice to say, we agree.

So, with this as good an excuse as any, add a little opera to your life today, whether by lending your support, your time, or your ears. Happy World Opera Day from all of us at Oxford International Opera and Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra.
