Beethoven Sonata No. 7 in D major, Op. 10 No. 3
Beethoven Two Rondos, Op. 51
Beethoven Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, ‘Pathétique’

Kristian Bezuidenhout fortepiano

Kristian Bezuidenhout has transformed our understanding of Beethoven’s piano writing by using the sorts of instruments the composer knew. Clarity and articulation mingle with heroism and drama in Bezuidenhout’s performances on period fortepianos, as they will in this recital at the Holywell Music Room ending with perhaps the most exciting and satisfying of all Beethoven’s piano sonatas, the ‘Pathétique’. Before it, the South African pianist leads us into the technical innovations and emotional despair of Sonata No. 7 and the no-strings-attached charm of his Two Rondos, whose simple graces betray their debt to Mozart.
