Carducci Quartet

Beethoven’s cycle of sixteen string quartets might just constitute the most complete and powerful musical statement ever made. The Carducci Quartet has made its own deep-dive into these pieces, recreating their sound world by assembling and testing instruments from the makers Beethoven knew, creating a matched set with an exact tonal blend. Now the Quartet comes to the Holywell Music Room with its specially-selected instruments for three linchpins of the cycle: the composer’s very first quartet, the work with which he found his mature voice in the form and the intense masterpiece that ushered in his radical late style.
