With his ‘pianism ideally suited to Beethoven’ (BBC Music Magazine), Boris Giltburg comes to the Holywell Music Room to traverse three of the composer’s best-loved ‘named’ piano sonatas. From the haunting atmosphere of the composer’s ‘Moonlight’ Sonata, Giltburg illuminates the nature pictures of his ‘Pastoral’ Sonata and finally brings us his magisterial account of the ‘Waldstein’ Sonata, with its huge technical demands, epic scale and evocative finale often described as a musical image of dawn breaking.
