Víkingur Ólafsson
Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54
Beethoven Symphony No. 3 in E flat major, Op. 55, 'Eroica'
Víkingur Ólafsson piano
Marios Papadopoulos conductor
In a standout highlight of this year’s Festival, the beloved Icelandic pianist and born communicator Víkingur Ólafsson joins Marios Papadopoulos and the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra for the piano concerto by Robert Schumann – a supple and musical love letter to his pianist wife, Clara. After Schumann’s concerto, Marios Papadopoulos marshals the entire ensemble in a symphony that would encapsulate ideals of liberty in music of intense endurance and fortitude and change music's rules in the process: Beethoven's 'Eroica'.
