Beethoven may have been the original ‘influencer’, but he was also an impressionable artist himself. In this recital Concertmasters Carmine Lauri and Tamás András present a sonata by one of the composer’s most significant teachers, Joseph Haydn, and the composer for whom Beethoven cleared so many paths, Franz Schubert. From the man himself, we hear two vital middle-period sonatas: No. 6, coloured by the tender charms of classicism, and then one of his most profoundly original works, the Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 7. It is a score that combines theatrical vitality, insistent vigour and long-breathed lyricism in one unequivocal statement.
