Towards the end of the 1770s, Mozart got wind of the tremendous opportunities posed by writing not for one solo instrument and orchestra, but two. The most joyous example of the six double concertos he embarked upon is that written for two pianos in 1779, in which ‘stereo’ soloists converse with the conviviality of two old friends catching up. A pianist with Mozart in her soul, Elena Bashkirova, plays this heartwarming piece with Music Director Marios Papadopoulos, alongside Mozart’s final solo concerto for the instrument – a work of poetry and poignancy. Marios then takes to the podium to round the concert off with the torrent of infectious musical energy that is Mozart’s last-ever symphony.
