We are writing to inform you that following the Government’s advice and the subsequent closure of the Sheldonian Theatre, it is with great regret that our events until Sunday 9 August have had to be cancelled.
We sincerely apologise for the disappointment this will cause our audiences but hope you will understand that the decision to cancel has the primary aim of ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of our artists, musicians, staff, audiences and the community at large.
Like many financially independent arts charities who receive no government subsidy, this is a huge and unprecedented period of uncertainty for the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra and this cancellation and potential future cancellations will result in a significant financial loss with many challenging months ahead. This will have a devastating impact on our freelance musicians and staff as well as affecting the work we do in the community in schools, hospitals and with Oxford University students. Your support is more crucial than ever as we look ahead to how we can sustain the organisation for the foreseeable and long-term future.
Our thoughts and sympathy are with all those impacted by coronavirus. Thank you for your understanding and support, and please stay healthy
