Bruckner Four

Bruckner Four

Bruckner Four

08 Dec 2022 | 19:30 | Sheldonian Theatre, Broad Street

Mozart Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467, ‘Elvira Madigan’
Bruckner Symphony No. 4 in E flat major, WAB 104

Marios Papadopoulos piano/conductor

With each of Bruckner’s symphonies came an intensification of his vision and a honing of his craft. But in the fourth he really came of age. Bruckner suggested its evocative opening might depict ‘a medieval city at dawn…the magic of the forest, the rustling of the leaves, the song of the birds’. The composer’s best-loved symphony is a work charged with as much human impulse as spiritual fulfilment. Marios Papadopoulos conducts it here, as well as directing from the keyboard one of Mozart’s most exuberant piano concertos.
