Selection of Études-Tableaux
Nikolai Lugansky is the finest living exponent of the virtuoso Russian piano tradition, and returns to the festival for this recital in the splendid surroundings of Christ Church Cathedral. Bookending his programme are big statements from heavyweight composers, ending with the epitome of Sergei Rachmaninov’s pianistic romanticism, his explorations of sonority and texture, the Études-Tableaux. But Lugansky begins with Beethoven, and the free-flowing fantasy of his Sonata No. 30 which ends with a sublime set of variations on a celestial theme.
The concert is scheduled to end at approximately 22:00.
