Savitri Grier
Exhilaration and Ecstasy
Saturday, 6 October 2012 - 8:00pm

Sheldonian Theatre

SIBELIUS Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47
BRAHMS Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98

Savitri Grier - violin
Marios Papadopoulos - conductor

‘Original, masterly and exhilarating’ was how the respected musicologist Sir Donald Tovey described Sibelius’ only concerto performed here by the extraordinarily gifted winner of our Concerto Competition, Savitri Grier. This enigmatic and challenging work is paired with the most searching – but finally compelling – of Brahms’ four symphonies. Britten recorded his acquisition of the score with one word ‘Ecstasy!’
