Howard Blake directs a programme of his own music including The Snowman in our Christmas Concert in December, while the Orchestra's much-admired interpretation of Handel's Messiah has a pre-Easter slot. The season closes in June with a Requiem – neither a solemn nor muted occasion, the flamboyant setting being that of that great operatic genius, Giuseppe Verdi.
