As part of our Oxford College Series and Educational Programme, Oxford Philomusica will collaborate with St Catz and a small group of exceptionally talented musicians from the College, to present one of the most revered chamber works, Mozart’s Piano Quintet, and the same composer’s perennial masterpiece, Symphony No. 40 in G minor. This concert is an early contribution to Catz50, a birthday celebration of the foundation of St Catherine’s College.

The first desks of Oxford Philomusica’s much-admired string section come together to play Mendelssohn’s astonishing manifestation of teenage talent, before the Orchestra in full force embarks upon the epic and ultimately uplifting musical journey which is Mahler’s First Symphony.

A Creepy-Crawly concert featuring those insects we either love or loath! Alasdair will be in ‘David Attenborough’ mode and the audience are invited to come dressed as a bug* or to bring along a toy or home-made bug. Music includes The Wasps Overture, The Ugly Bug Ball and a Tarantella for Tarantulas as well as a unique and unforgettable version of The Flight of the Bumble Bee!

John Rutter makes a welcome return to conduct what will be only the second performance of his Harp Concerto, for which the Orchestra will be joined by Catrin Finch, described as the ‘The Queen of Harps’. This delightful springtime concert opens and closes with two Gallic backward glances – Ravel’s formalised tribute to friends fallen in the First World War, and Bizet’s only, but brilliant and classically-conceived, symphonic excursion.

The ethereal and haunting melodies of the Fauré are paired with Goodall's unorthodox interpretation of the Requiem Mass for which he won Composer of the Year in the Classical Brits Awards 2009.
